BEJING, June 20 (Xinhuanet) -- U.S. Democratic Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton Tuesday unveiled her new 2008 presidential campaign song: "You and I" by Canadian singer Celine Dion.
Her official website revealed the song via a new video spoofing the recent series finale of HBO mob drama "The Sopranos."
The video, also featuring a tongue-in-cheek cameo by her husband and former president Bill Clinton, was the latest shot in a battle among candidates for control of the new internet frontier of the 2008 White House race.
In the video, Hillary walks into a diner, finds a seat, and begins flicking through a miniature table-top jukebox. She is soon joined by her husband, who asks her how her campaign is going.
"Well like you always say, focus on the good times," Hillary says.
Bill then asks "What's the winning song? My money's on 'Smash Mouth,' everybody in America wants to know how it's going to end."
In a final flourish, Senator Clinton puts a coin in the slot of the juke box and says, "Ready?"
But as viewers expect to hear the winner of an online competition to select her campaign song, instead, the screen tunes to black, in another Sopranos moment.
Senator Clinton's black screen ends with a link to her campaign website, naming Dion's song, and a fundraising push.
Senator Clinton's campaign said two videos on her website previewing the competition garnered a combined one million hits, and the competition drew 200,000 votes.
However, the selection of Dion resulted in some smirking accusations from Republicans that Clinton had "outsourced" her music. In fact, Dion's "You and I" has done a turn as a theme song already -- for Air Canada in 2004.
