From Manuel Hidalgo, Academic Director of Corporate Training Solutions
"........ I have shared my views with several colleagues already. I do consider it (Framework) is not merely a “better book” but a real step forward in ELT, especially because of the concepts it puts into practice, some of which so many teachers, including myself, have literally been longing to see all in a single book for years.
First of all, it applies a 100% lexical approach, where all the language used is real, based on frequency of use and collocation, and grammar is presented inductively only as a byproduct.
It shows a very adult approach; all the texts are interesting and challenging, and even if some might look complex for a certain level, the comprehension check exercises are always as demanding as the students’ command would allow.
An aspect that has been considered a total taboo in so many language institutes for so long, i.e. translation, is handled in such a wise and mature way, just for contrastive analysis, and precisely to avoid the literal transfer from L2 into L1 and viceversa, that all of us have been fighting for ages.
The fact that the series is already inserted in the Common European Framework of Reference standards also gives users complete confidence and saves us the considerable amount of time that we would have to devote to research on international correspondence when using a material.

Framework 4 (Upper Intermediate)
So far I’ve only used a few units but am impressed with the content and layout.
Student book: • well laid out and easy to use • innovative topics that generate discussion • like the continual assessment built into the book after every 3 units
Workbook • good way for student to consolidate what they have been studying • CD give them the opportunity to do some self study at home Like the ‘What do you now know’ section Enables student to prioritise their learning – identify what they next want/ need to learn
Teacher’s book • Spiral bound make it very easy to use and this should also lengthen its life • Particularly like the unit map which makes it very easy to plan your lessons.
Resource book As yet haven’t used this a great deal – but I like the material (as I am teaching a very small group at the moment)
Pronunciation segments very good – students have found very useful
All in all useful set as you have everything from one source. Perhaps sell it in a wallet
As yet have not had the opportunity to use the CD Rom
DVD • Interesting modern topics which have generated a lot of discussion in class • particularly good for reviewing descriptive vocabulary with sound down and predicting the story/content • cover screen and predict from the sound what is happening – sometimes with hilarious results!!
